Getting Married on a Holiday?

At Linens by the Sea, we wonder if getting married on a holiday will be tricky or a treat?

Whether getting married on a holiday is planned or not, it can be tricky or fun. We've noticed at Linens by the Sea that its something that brides and grooms often encounter as a wedding date option each and every year. Holidays usually arent your first pick as a newly engaged couple for a wedding date, but due to circumstances, scheduling conflicts or your dream venue availability, you may have no other choice. On the other hand, it may have always been your dream to get married on New Year's Eve, Christmas Day, the 4th of July or our most recently celebrated holiday, Mother's Day.

Lets start with the most recent holiday Mothers Day. A Mothers Day wedding can be very emotional for everyone involved, and it can also be tough for all those mothers that are choosing to come and spend their special day attending your wedding who might not be a part of your family but a terrific friend. This may be due to travel or spending the day away from their own children. Some guests may even be grieving because they lost their mother or wife recently.

To be empathetic to everyone's feelings, you can choose to avoid mentioning Mothers Day at your wedding, or you can make it a point to truly honor all moms. Something as simple as giving them a special bundle of flowers, thanking them for attending or having the officiant say some nice words during the ceremony are very nice touches. Whichever way you decide, it should be your choice, and no matter what, you should have fun on your big day!

The next major holiday we have coming up in 2015 on a weekend is the 4th of July. Now the summer months do not fall into peak wedding season here in Florida because of the heat, but up north wedding season is in full swing. When trying to book a popular venue this very well may be the only Saturday available.

There are some positives and negatives about getting married on the 4th. The best is that your husband will never forget your anniversary!! Joking aside, getting married on the 4th could be a blessing in disguise because typically all your guests will already have a 3 or 4 day weekend, the venue may be at a discounted rate, and if you play your cards right, you may even have some fireworks going off in the background. Its not expected that you go all out with a Red, White and Blue themed wedding, after all it is still your wedding day, but there are some really fun subtle ways to tie the national holiday into your wedding: sparklers at the send off, patriotic themed pin wheels with your wedding date and married name printed as favors, or finally red, white and blue themed appetizer stations.

Having your wedding on other major holidays such as Christmas may evoke thoughts of ugly sweaters, but with some creative thinking, you can turn the holiday into an amazing wedding day. Take for instance, Thanksgiving. You could make the reception dinner family style with long feasting tables and harvest centerpieces using on trend colors in your linens such as Gold, Burnt Orange, Copper, and Terra Cotta. New Year's Eve can be a fun wedding night if you are a couple that enjoys the night life, & it gives you an instant theme. You can turn your wedding night into a New Year's celebration by incorporating sparklers, sugar rimmed champagne glasses and of course lots of dancing all the makings of a festive and sparkling party! Now lets talk about Halloween, and this is Kyle Wood's wifes favorite holiday. Kyle works at U.S. Tent Rental and can also assist you with any linen questions you might have at Linens by the Sea. He partners with us all the time. As Kyle states, "I am certain that if we would have gotten married during this time of the year, a Halloween wedding would have been on the table for discussion. The décor would have been right up my wife's alley with the pumpkins, chandeliers, fall flowers, and all the other fun DIY things that can be done with a Halloween wedding."
