Bringing Out Your Inner Child
This blog is written by Kyle Wood, one of our account representatives at US Tent Rental. He is in charge of tradeshows, draping of tradeshows and knows a ton about linens, too. Here is his take on how to make an event unique and most of all fun!
"For those who know me, bringing out my inner child isn’t an issue. After all I’m not even 30 yet. I love arriving to work and having a new music station theme in my head for the day. I sing verses of songs randomly throughout the day to keep the office smiling – ranging from Taylor Swift, Rolling Stones, a little Billy Joel or even some Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons. I found that it helps when you are having a stressful day, week, month or season. In a lot of ways I take after my father. He was a 6ft 9in tall practical joker who won over the hearts of all of his family and friends. He passed away 9 years ago, but the older I get the more people say you are just like your father and there is no greater compliment in the world to me."
"Just a few weeks ago, my family all got together for my nephews 3rd birthday, my mom’s, my sister & my brother-in-law’s birthday, plus my brother-in-law’s parents 50th anniversary. It was a fantastic summer day where I was able to teach one of my nephews how to cannonball in the pool."
"Anyways, I was looking at the birthday cake for my nephew and it was NHL themed and it made me think of a wedding I recently went to. The groom had a Tampa Bay Lightning cake as his grooms cake. It made me think how one way or another we all try to recreate our youth and what better time to do that than during a party!! It could be a holiday party, birthday party, wedding, or even just a Saturday night get together with friends. Here are some really fun, subtle and extreme ways to bring out your inner child during events.
Kyle explains, "One way to show your “inner child” is a themed inspired cakes. Whether it is your 5th or your 50th birthday having a themed cake is a blast!! It could be your favorite superhero, favorite professional sports team (mine would be the Tampa Bay Rays!!), favorite children’s TV show, cheerleader or even a princess cake!!!
Another thought from Kyle is truly right on point. "You’ve all been there, your favorite song comes along and all you do it DANCE!! So during weddings or other events with dancing you will find the most people on the dance floor when you are playing a song where everyone can be in sync & let loose. Songs like the Electric Slide, Macarena, Chicken Dance Song, Gangnam style, Cupid Shuffle, YMCA, Hokey Pokey, and the Cha Cha Slide are all so fun and definitely bring out your inner child. I mean unless you don’t have a soul, how can you not smile when you are doing the Macarena – it’s so silly its fun!!!
"Ah, a favorite pastime, dressing up in a costume. Attending a costume party makes planning and hosting one even harder, but whether you are hosting or attending they are totally worth it!! Costume parties are big during Halloween but they certainly don’t have to be limited to that magical day in October. You could have an Ugly Sweater party at Christmas time or if you were born in the 60’s and you are turning 50 you could have a 60’s themed party (or any decade for any age – roaring 20’s is always fun). Some other specific party themes would be to come as your favorite musician, athlete, TV character, superhero, you could have a Masquerade party or if you are in college, or trying to relive your college years, you could have a classic Toga party. With costume parties the options are endless!"
"Fun Games!! As adults, it’s still fun to play games. Last year I went to a wedding at College Hall on the Ringling Estate, here in Sarasota and half of the lawn was dedicated to your traditional seated dinner and the other half was dedicated to lawn games. They had tbean bag toss, Croquet, Bocce Ball, and the classic Horseshoe Ring Toss. It was such a fun and relaxed wedding to attend because everyone enjoyed the games!! Other than weddings you can have game inspired parties. An example would be having a group of friends all meet at the beach and bringing the biggest super soaker you can find and having a water gun birthday party! Impromptu games of hide n seek, basic tag, or even pin the tail on the donkey. All games in fun can bring out a smile – win or lose."
